February Course News
Thursday 6th February 2020
We have finally had a break in the consistent wet weather with a slight shift towards colder temperatures, it is great to see the course is drying out well. It has been a really challenging period keeping the course open and playable where possible while addressing many of the walkways and wetter areas around the course to ensure they are less of a concern for years to come.
Over the last few weeks we have installed some plastic matting into the walkways on the 1st and 3rd holes, raising the path above the wettest areas. These will be seeded and dressed come springtime to blend to the natural surroundings and will provide a stable base for winters to come. Additional drainage has been installed in front of the 4th tee with the new ditch being pumped regularly to move any standing water away from this area. This area will also benefit from a slightly raised walkway being constructed in the near future.
In the coming months the greenkeepers will be preparing and building a new practice bunker in the short game area. This project has been suggested by the committee and backed by numerous members and will be designed to be a more accurate reflection of the type of bunker you would find (but hope not to!) on the course. This will be a great addition to the fantastic practice facilities we have at the club and we look forward to sharing the progress as we go along.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our members for their understanding and support throughout the challenging winter months. Keeping to marked pathways and always repairing your pitch marks will ensure our course is in the finest condition come spring and summer.
